What is Pathology - How do phagocytic vacuoles form by leukocytes?
The creation of phagocytic vacuoles requires a focal invagination of the cell surface membrane, as well as a lateral extension of the cytoplasmic process. These cytoplasmic alterations are similar to those that contribute to the development of pseudopods and are dependent on cytoskeleton restructuring. The activation of metabolic activities that occur in activated leukocytes reacting to chemotactic stimuli is required for cytoskeletal alterations.
