What is Pathology - What are myofibroblasts, and what do they do?
Myofibroblasts are a type of cell that combines the characteristics of fibroblasts and smooth muscle cells. In other words, these cells have the ability to make collagen and other matrix proteins while simultaneously having the ability to contract. Myofibroblasts are located in the granulation tissue and are responsible for wound contraction and dehiscence prevention.
