What is Pathology - What are the clinical implications of congenital abnormalities in leukocyte function?
Increased susceptibility to infections is a result of congenital phagocytosis, or bacterial killing, abnormalities. Infants born with one of these flaws are especially vulnerable to opportunistic infections, which are diseases caused by common, low-virulence bacteria and fungi that do not cause infections in people without these problems.
