What is Pathology - What is the definition of granulation tissue?
Ancient surgeons called the red, granular tissue that filled non-healing wounds granulation tissue. Granulation tissue is seen in all wounds during healing, but it may also be found in chronic inflammation, thanks to the invention of microscopy. It is made up of fibroblasts surrounded by a thick layer of ECM, newly created blood vessels, dispersed macrophages, and other inflammatory cells.
