European Union Law ( EU Law) - language barriers
The topic of linguistic differences in EU law has been discussed by the Court on numerous occasions. In Stauder v. Ulm (Case 29/69) [1969] ECR 419, for instance, it was determined that "the necessity for uniform application and accordingly for uniform interpretation makes it impossible to consider one version of... text in isolation but requires that it be interpreted on the basis of both the real intention of its author and the aim he seeks to achieve, in particular in light of the versions in all [the] languages."
