Differential diagnosis of jaundice ( icterus)
-hereditary bilirubin excretion defect such as Rotor’s syndrome, Dubin Johnson syndrome -hepatocellular damage or intrahepatic cholestasis such as hepatitis, hepatic cirrhosis, drugs, biliary cirrhosis, sepsis, liver abscess, cholangitis, Budd Chiari Syndrome, spirochetal infection, infectious mononucleosis, industrial toxins, sarcoidosis, tuberculosis, lymphoma -biliary obstruction such as pancreatic tumor, choledocholithiasis, biliary stricture, biliary duct carcinoma, primary sclerosing cholangitis, -impaired uptake and storage such as posthepatitis hyperbilirubinemia, Crigler- Najjar syndrome, Gilbert’s syndrome, drugs, -increased production due to hemolysis, pulmonary infarction, hematoma -carotenemia
