What is Emergency medicine - . What circumstances make cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in cases of unintentional hypothermia contraindicated?
Unless a do-not-resuscitate order has been confirmed, fatal injuries have been found, there are no indications of life, or the chest wall is frozen and cannot be crushed, CPR should begin. A cardiac monitor should be used for 30-45 seconds to check for signs of life since a patient with extreme hypothermia may seem dead and because vital signals may be hard to get.
