Aseptic meningitis
Aseptic meningitis is caused by echoviruses and coxsackieviruses. Echoviruses and coxsackieviruses can be detected via polymerase chain reaction. Echoviruses and coxsackieviruses will infect the meninges. Aseptic meningitis is characterized by acute episodes of headache, fever, stiff neck and photophobia. There are no neurological complication. The common mode of transmission is via fecal oral route.
