Chromoblastomycosis
Chromoblastomycosis is presented as wartlike lesions which will progress into cauliflower type lesion at the sites of inoculation. Chromoblastomycosis is caused by soil fungi. This include Phialophora, Cladosporium and Fonsecaea. Pathogenesis of chromoblastomycosis may present with hyperplasia of the epithelium due to inflammatory responses with microabscesses ( keratinolytic). The common mode of transmission may include barefoot workers exposure to contaminated soil. Skin scraping from the leg or feet in potassium hydroxide preparation may reveal the present of muriform bodies ( copper colored sclerotic cell bodies). The common mode of treatment of chromoblastomycosis may include advise on wearing shoes as protective measures with treatment with itraconazole and flucytosine as well as surgical excision.
