What is Pathology -During hydropic change, where does water collect?
Water collects not only in the hyaloplasm, but also in the invaginations of the plasma membrane (hypoxic vacuoles), mitochondria, and RER cisterns, causing them to malfunction. The detachment of ribosomes from membranes of dilated RER results in lower protein synthesis, and swollen mitochondria produce less energy.
